Radiofrequency Ablation

This minimally-invasive procedure reduces or eliminates the pain of damaged facet joints by disrupting the medical branch nerves that carry the pain signals. The physician uses an electrode to heat and disrupt the nerves ability to communicate with the brain, blocking the pain signal.

This procedure is also called radiofrequency rhizotomy. It can treat pain that doesn’t respond to medications or to physical therapy.
